History

The Pohangina Technical School was contructed in 1909 and located across the road from the school building. When the school building burnt down in 1927, the Technical School building was shifted across the road to it's current location and became the new school building.

The school closed in 1972 and for a number of years the building deteriorated with the decline in population and use.

In 1994 the community rallied to preserve the building and eventually obtained sufficient funding to carry out much needed maintenance which included:

  • complete roof and spouting replacement
  • repair to the sub floor and new flooring
  • exterior painting

This work was completed with over 1800 volunteer hours going into the project and eventually the interior was also painted.

In 2002 a new covered deck and french doors were added to one end of the building providing a much needed fire exit. In 2004 a barbeque was installed.
